The Norwegian Transparency Act

We view the Transparency Act as a key to strengthening our social responsibility and transparency. Explore how we work to ensure respect for human rights and safe working conditions throughout our entire organization.

About the Law

The «Law on Enterprises’ Transparency and Work with Fundamental Human Rights and Decent Working Conditions,» also known as the Transparency Act, is a Norwegian law that was enacted to promote greater corporate social responsibility. This law ensures that businesses respect fundamental human rights and maintain decent working conditions within their own organizations, in their production and supply chains, as well as with their partners.

All businesses covered by the law are required to conduct due diligence assessments, be able to account for them, respond to inquiries, and make this information easily accessible to the public—for example, on the companies’ websites.

Our Assessments

Svalbard Adventures AS aims to be a predictable, ethical, and responsible actor and employer. Our ethical guidelines apply to all employees, temporary staff, and hired consultants and are distributed, published, and easily accessible in our digital employee handbook.

After the Transparency Act came into effect on July 1, 2022, Svalbard Adventures AS created an overview of all our partners and service providers. The purpose of this overview was to ensure that our suppliers are entities where we can expect compliance with the law’s provisions and protection of its intentions.

In our ongoing work, when entering into new agreements or extending existing ones, we will conduct background checks, self-assessments, and discussions. Through this, we will make it clear that Svalbard Adventures AS requires that our partners ensure the respect of fundamental human rights and that employees have working conditions in line with Norwegian law.

Svalbard Adventures AS has not yet had to terminate any cooperation with our service and product providers due to legal violations, lack of respect for human rights, or indecent working conditions. If Svalbard Adventures AS or the authorities uncover seriously questionable conditions among our subcontractors, we will terminate the cooperation without undue delay.
