Every year we arrange a Christmas concert in Restaurant Polfareren with Liv Mari Schei. It is not without reason that this event is sold out year after year. Liv Mari Schei has previously lived in Longyearbyen for many years and is a talented musician who has earned a place in the hearts of the local community. She has engaged the local community with music, culture, and concerts for many years. Today she will share her Christmas favorites with us, and we can promise you a harmonious and atmospheric experience.

Welcome December with delicious Christmas food at Restaurant Polfareren. On the buffet you will find traditional Norwegian Christmas dishes such as pork ribs and pork chops, together with all the sides that belongs to the dishes. A lovely Christmas dessert will await you after the buffet.
Finally, the restaurant and hotel are decorated for Christmas, and it’s time for the lutefisk evening! Lutefisk, a traditional Scandinavian dish made from dried whitefish (usually cod) that has been soaked in a lye solution before cooking, will be the highlight of the evening. Everyone is warmly welcome to an evening focused on lutefisk and accompaniments! The price includes two servings, dessert, and coffee.
Rakfisk is a popular Norwegian favorite during the Christmas holidays and the rakfisk evening has become a tradition with us at Restaurant Polfareren. Rakfisk is a Norwegian fish dish made from trout or char, salted, and autolyzed for two to three months, or even up to a year.
We serve traditional rakfisk from Norway, with all the accessories that go with it. Flatbread, rakfisk, potatoes, eggs, beetroot, sour cream, mustard, onion etc. Each table is served a buffet. We also serve a delicious dessert with the taste of Christmas.
It is a tradition in Norway to eat rice porridge on 23 December, the day before the Norwegian Christmas Eve. We always put an almond into the porridge and the person that gets the almond will win a small symbolic present. Svalbard Hotel Polfareren is decorated for Christmas and the smell of the Christmas tree sets the mood for the evening. It will be possible to eat in the restaurant or bring the Christmas porridge with you into the lobby area in front of the fireplace and the Christmas tree. Who gets the almond in the porridge?
